Yesterday, we discerned WHO God wants us to be praying for? Now, HOW are we to pray for them? What are we to pray for?

Consider these passages.

Jesus says …

John 6:44 (NIV)

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.

What does this passage say about how we should pray for people?

This is Jesus’ commission to the Apostle Paul …

Acts 26:16-20 (NIV)

“I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me.

“I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”

So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

What does this passage say about how we should pray for people?

Ephesians 2:1-5 (NIV)

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

What does this passage say about how we should pray for people?

2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (NLT)

If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

What does this passage say about how we should pray for people?

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV)

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

What does this passage say about how we should pray for people?

J.I. Packer

However clear and compelling we may be in presenting the gospel, we have no hope of convincing or converting anyone. Can you or I by our earnest talking break the power of Satan over a person’s life? No. Can you or I hope to convince sinners of the truth of the gospel by patient explanation? No. Can we hope to move people to obey the gospel by any words of entreaty that we may utter? No. Our approach to evangelism is not realistic till we have faced this shattering fact, and let it make its proper impact on us.

What does this quote say about why we need to pray?

Here is a prayer you could pray. Right now, pray this prayer for YOUR 3.

Father, I pray for _______'s salvation. Help me to live a consistent and attractive Christian life around _______. Show me _______’s needs so that I can serve him/her with Your love. Deepen our relationship together. Open doors for me to have spiritual conversations with _______ and help me to share Jesus with him/her. Overcome Satan's blinding of  _______'s heart so that he/she will repent of his/her sin and believe in Jesus.

Continue to pray intentionally and intently for YOUR 3. Share their names with your huddle so they can join you in praying. Consider fasting a meal a week in order to pray for them. What if your Huddle got together some evening and specifically prayed for each other’s 3. Prayer is so important in reaching people for Jesus. As Jesus says in …

John 6:44 (NIV)

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
