1 Timothy 2:1-5 (NIV)

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

  • According to this passage, why does our mission start with prayer?

Whom are we to pray for? Everyone!

But often when we attempt to pray for everyone, we end of praying for no one. We just can’t sustain that level of prayer. That’s why it’s helpful to limit the field a bit. Pray intentionally and intently for a few people. Specifically, pray for those whom God is leading you to pray for? He knows people’s hearts. He knows what’s going on in their lives. He knows who’s receptive to the Good News of Jesus. For sure, pray for everyone, but also pray that God will direct you to specific people to pray for.

In fact, ask God right now who you should focus your prayers on? It might be one person. It might be two or three. The Lord, may show you more people to pray for. But it’s probably best to start with about three people. And let’s call them MY 3.

Last week, we considered Jesus’ direction about looking for a Person of Peace. Specifically, ask the Lord who in your circle of influence might be a Person of Peace.

  • Whom is God leading you to pray for from where you live, work, learn and play?
