Week 2 - Day 3
THE MISSION
Pray
LISTENING PRAYER
DAILY DIRECTIONS
Use a sentence or bullet points to finish these statements.
UP - Lift Up Your Praise
Lord, I praise You for …
DOWN - Bow Down In Repentance
Lord, I repent of …
IN - Take In God’s Word
Keep praying for YOUR 3. Once again, you may find this model prayer helpful:
Father, I pray for _______'s salvation. Help me to live a consistent and attractive Christian life around _______. Show me _______’s needs so that I can serve him/her with Your love. Deepen our relationship together. Open doors for me to have spiritual conversations with _______ and help me to share Jesus with him/her. Overcome Satan's blinding of _______'s heart so that he/she will repent of his/her sin and believe in Jesus.
Let’s dissect this model prayer a bit. From this prayer …
What do we pray about for ourselves?
What do we pray about for the person we are reaching out to?
What do we pray about spiritual warfare and God’s power?
What else would you add to this prayer? How can you custom craft it for the person/people you’re praying for?
As we have seen in our use of the Daily Directions, prayer isn’t just talking, it’s also listening.
Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Acts 13:1-5 (NIV)
Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues.
How is prayer, or for that matter, daily living, to be a dialogue between you and God?
As you continue to pray for YOUR 3, stay open to God’s leadings on how to minister to them. Specifically, ask God how you can share the love of Jesus with each person. And after asking, don’t hang up the phone. Pause and wait for an answer. Maybe the Lord will lead you on how to pray for them. Or He may lead you to call or text them and ask how they are doing or to serve them in some practical way. However the Lord leads you, just do it.
How do you know if it’s the Lord speaking to you? That’s not always easy to discern. But the best policy seems to be To Hear Is To Obey. Just do what you sense God telling you to do and see what happens. If you do, you may discover that God has clearly led you and will powerfully use you. If you don’t, you’ll never know. As John Wimber liked to say: Faith is spelled R-I-S-K. Sometimes the only way to know if God is leading you is to take the risk of obeying.
Today as you keep praying for YOUR 3, ask God how you can share the love of Jesus with them. Pause to listen and then step out in faith.
Lord, I hear you saying to me …
So with Your help I will …
OUT - Pray Out Your Requests
Lord, I pray for …
STOP - Stop, Look and Listen
Lord, what do You want to show me or say to me?
GO - Go Through Your Day
Lord, I pray for Your help as I anticipate these events today …
