Week 1 - Day 1
THE MISSION
Mission
RESCUED FOR A REASON
Welcome to the third Map of Follow the Way called The Mission. You have worked through The Story and The Relationship and hopefully you have embraced that Story as your own by embracing Jesus as your Savior and Lord and you are growing in your relationship with Jesus. The Mission, then, is about how to join God’s Mission of sharing that Story with others. It’s about how to share the love of Jesus and invite others to follow Jesus with you.
If you haven’t worked through The Story or The Relationship yet, it’s best to do that before proceeding to The Mission.
In Week 9 of The Story we saw that we have been rescued for a reason. God the Father has rescued us through Jesus Christ so we can join Him in His rescue mission to the world.
Before we jump into that though, let’s work our way through the Daily Directions.
Once again, please record your responses so you can share them at your Weekly Huddle.
DAILY DIRECTIONS
Use a sentence or bullet points to finish these statements.
UP - Lift Up Your Praise

IN - Take In God’s Word
The following passage comes from Jesus’ first appearance to His disciples after His Resurrection from the dead. The disciples had already heard from the women that Jesus was alive. But because of their lack of faith and fear of the Jewish leaders they stayed in hiding behind locked doors. That didn’t stop Jesus from coming to them, though.
John 20:19-21 (NET)
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the disciples had gathered together and locked the doors of the place because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. Just as the Father has sent me, I also send you.”
What a staggering mission!
Why did the Father send Jesus?
So now why does Jesus send us?
How did the Father send Jesus?
So now how does Jesus send us?
What were the results of the Father sending Jesus?
So now what will the results be of Jesus sending us?
Once again, we have been rescued for a reason. The rescued become rescuers. This is our mission.
2 Corinthians 5:11-6:2 (NIV)
Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart. If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. For he says,
“In the time of my favor I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
What does it mean to be reconciled to someone?
How did God reconcile us to Himself through Jesus Christ?
Now that we have been reconciled with God, what is our mission?
What words and phrases in this passage show the importance and urgency of this mission?
Whom do you know that needs to be reconciled to God?
Lord, I hear You saying to me …
Now, with Your help I will …
OUT - Pray Out Your Requests

STOP - Stop, Look and Listen
Lord, what do You want to show me or say to me?
