Here’s the greatest Love Story ever.
1 John 4:9-10
This is how God showed us His love: He sent His One and Only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. THIS IS LOVE: not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the wrath-removing-sacrifice for our sins.
Let’s break down this story using the acronym L-O-V-E.
This Is L-O-V-E
L
LIFE - God has created all of life, including yours. In addition to the gift of life, God has given us the gift of His law. As Creator, God has determined what is right and wrong—how life works best. He has revealed His law in the Bible and in our hearts through our conscience.
O
OFFENSE - Instead of following God’s way of life, however, we have gone our own way. We have rebelled against God’s authority, broken His law and become his enemies. The Bible calls this rebellion sin—rejecting God’s will to follow our own. The penalty for sin is death.
V
VICTORY - In love, God sent His Son Jesus to die in our place. By dying on the cross and rising from the dead, Jesus has removed God’s justified anger against our sin. Those who personally embrace Jesus’ death and resurrection are given Jesus’ victory over sin and death and become members of God’s family.
E
EMBRACE - Embrace God’s forgiveness through repentance and faith in Jesus, embrace God’s leadership by following Jesus, embrace God’s family by joining a community of believers and embrace God’s mission by sharing His love.

God, I am sorry for my sin. I have rebelled against Your authority and have lived for myself instead of You. Please forgive me.
Thank you for the gift of Jesus’ death on the cross for my sin and His resurrection to new life. I believe in Jesus and receive Your forgiveness, love and life. I commit myself to follow Jesus’ leadership. Help me to live for You now. Amen.
