IN - Take In God’s Word
As Christians we believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that God still speaks to us through the Bible today. And as we saw last week, part of following Jesus is following His Word.
John 8:31-32 (ESV)
Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Read the following passages and answer this question for each: What is the Bible and why is it important?
2 Timothy 3:14-17 (NIV)
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
What is the Bible and why is it important?
2 Peter 1:19-21 (NIV)
We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
What is the Bible and why is it important?
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
What is the Bible and why is it important?
James 1:22-25 (NIV)
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
What is the Bible and why is it important?
What has been your experience of reading the Bible?
Has it been easy or difficult to read?
Has there been a particular Bible passage that God has used to speak to you personally? What was the passage and how did God speak to you through it?
Follow The Way uses the To Hear Is To Obey Bible study method. That’s why after reading the Bible you are asked to complete these two sentences: Lord, I hear You saying to me … and Now, with Your help I will …
Why is just reading the Bible and knowing what it says not enough? Why do we need to obey it and do what it says?
How would regular Bible reading help you develop a personal, intelligent and interactive relationship with Jesus?
Lord, I hear You saying to me …
Now, with Your help I will …
OUT - Pray Out Your Requests
Lord, I pray for …
STOP - Stop, Look and Listen
Lord, what do You want to show me or say to me?
GO - Go Through Your Day
