Week 3 - Day 4
THE MISSION
Show
WHY?
To keep things fresh, we will be using the Lord’s Prayer as our template rather than the Daily Directions.
Use a sentence or bullet points to finish these statements.
Our Father in heaven.
I thank you that You are our Father because …
Your name be honored as holy
In …
Your Kingdom come.
May Your rule and reign come to …
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Our hope and prayer as we show the character and compassion of Jesus in our circle of influence is that people will get curious. And questions like these will begin to form in their minds …
- What happened to Tom? He’s different from what he used to be.
- Why does Rosario always ask me about my kids?
- Why did my neighbor take the time to help me with my lawn?
- Why is my boss so patient with me?
- And so on.
Sometimes, people will just think these questions. Other times, they’ll actually ask you these questions. How will you answer them?
Colossians 4:5-6 (NIV)
Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
What does this passage say about how we are to live and answer people’s questions?
1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
What does this passage say about how we are to live and answer people’s questions?
Once again, as we show the character and compassion of Jesus it will raise people’s curiosity. The question becomes how will you answer their questions. Whatever you do, don’t wimp out.
Let’s say they respond to your practical help with the question why. “Why did you help me?”
Which answer do you think is better and why?
I thought it would be something nice to do.
I thought it would be something Jesus would do.
How would you answer the question?
Or let’s say they respond to a character change in your life with, “What’s happen to you?”
Which answer do you think is better and why?
I’ve decided to turn over a new leaf and it’s helping me make some changes in my life.
I’ve decided to turn my life over to Jesus and He’s helping me make some changes in my life.
How would you answer the question?
Think about your life. Who has shown you the character and compassion of Jesus? How did their witness impact you?
As we close this week on showing the character and compassion of Jesus, once again …
How can you show the character of Christ to YOUR 3?
How can you show the compassion of Christ to YOUR 3?
Lord, I hear you saying to me …
So with Your help I will …
Give us today our daily bread.
Meet our daily needs of …
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Forgive my sin of … and I forgive … of their sin against me of …
And do not bring us into temptation.
Help me to withstand the temptation of …
But deliver us from the evil one.
Satan is attacking me by … and I need Your help.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
